HHEC acquired Las Americas Apartments a (552 unit complex) from HUD in
1995.  From 1997 to 2000 Las Americas underwent three major phases of
construction. The first phase included bringing the buildings up to code for
safety.  The second phase included 9.3 million dollars in remodeling the interior
as well as the exterior of all the buildings. The third phase included the building
of a 2.3 million dollar educational facility which sits on the property at Las
Americas. This three story educational facility has approximately 28,000 square
feet and is fully equipped with a science lab, a full functioning kitchen, major
theater entertainment equipment, and has surveillance cameras that monitor
activity throughout the exterior of the school and surrounding complex.  The
Houston Independent School District teaches its curriculum to 350 students at
the complex including Pre-K, Kinder, and middle school children from 6 to 8th
graders.
This model project was recognized by the U.S. Department of Housing and
Urban Development (HUD) as a model for other low income housing apartments
to emulate.

Before
After
One of our fundamental goals is to improve the lives of the hard working
people who live at Las Americas. Here you can see the renovations
done that are making those goals a reality.
One of the major attractions to the residents of Las Americas is the closeness to the world-famous Houston
Galleria which offers many employment opportunities.
Another major benefit to living at Las Americas is the closeness in proximity
to a large multi-cultural shopping center which is next door to the property.
We also are proud to be steps away from a major Metro Bus Line.
Among the amenities at Las Americas are the huge pool
and workout fascility.
