From 1995-1997 HHEC  developed  the
Eastend Apartments.  It was the first
construction of its size in the east end of
Houston since the 1960's.  It was also the
second construction of any size in the east end
of Houston since the 1960's.  The east end of
Houston had been traditionally overlooked by
for-profit developers and there was a lack of
new housing to accommodate the large growth
of Hispanics living in the area.  This property
houses 150 families and sits as an oasis in an
area which is under served.

The project was developed by utilizing $6.8
million dollars in low-income housing tax credits
which were allocated by Texas Department of
Housing and Community Affairs.
